How effective or what is the VMG ?

The Gennaker is really cut flat like a Genoa Sail but made out of Spinaker cloth. In light winds you can use the Gennaker on a point of sail as high as a close reach (apparent wind slightly forward of the beam). To do this you have to lay on the leelward trampoline, steer with one hand and manually hold the clew of the Gennaker in board and sheeted in as close as you can without making the jib luff, in other words you have to allow enough room for the air flow between the jib and Gennaker. Newby

I have ordered a new Weta to be delivered shortly. Any newby advice will be appreciated. I have viewed the video on rigging, but if you made any initial mistakes when you obtained your boat (and are willing to share) I will really appreciate. I am an old Hobie 16 sailor and am looking forward to the challenges of this boat. I am in the Seattle WA region.

Jon,

Let us know when you have taken it out. That will likely generate more questions. I have found many Weta sailors enjoy sharing what they know to help the fleet improve.

I’m looking at a early Weta that has a square or possibly rectangle hatch at the front of the cockpit. Did the earlier boats come with this instead of the round hatch or is it a change someone made along the way? Thanks!

Lots of folks have replaced the small round hatch with a larger rectangular hatch. It's one of the best mods you can make IMHO. I used a knock-off version of this hatch that was about 1/3 the price. https://ebay.us/m/Ui7LMT

Road King Trailer wheel/tire size

Hi… most appreciated if someone can let me know the wheel/tire size as I am away from the club where the boat is. Many thanks

Hello Franck, There are actually 2 tire sizes that will work on the Custom Weta Road King trailer. They both have 4 lug nuts. The two sizes that work are: 4.80/4.00-8 and 4.80-12 and the tire size is not the only consideration. Tires have a speed rating. If you tow your Weta on the highway you want a high speed rated tire. Also Bias vs Radial tires. Recently experts have started recommending Radial Tires for trailer tires, but as recently as a couple years ago Bias were considered the best for trailer tires. If you are only replacing one tire be sure not to mix Bias and Radial on the same trailer. I have both sizes in stock but only in Bias which is the type that come with a Weta Trailer. The tires I have in stock are the same Kendra Load Star brand that come with the Road King custom Weta Trailers and are High Speed Rated for towing at Highway Speeds. I will be at Weta Fest and the Alter Cup and I have both size tires in my van as well as many other Weta spare parts. Please call if you have more questions. Rick Upson Sail 1422.
