2025 Weta West Coast Championship

The 2025 Weta West Coast Championship made a triumphant return as part of Eugene Yacht Club’s “Live on the Edge” Multihull Regatta this past weekend, June 7–8. This marked the first West Coast Championship for the Weta fleet since the 2017 Nationals in Hood River, and anticipation was high among competitors and organizers alike.  EYC hosted a fantastic even with camping or RVing, easy launching off the lawn/beach, delightful, nutritious, and filling meals starting with Friday dinner and ending with leftovers after the Sunday awards.  The race committee did an amazing job keeping the fleets moving and adjusting the SailGP or AC type course as needed.  With a reaching start, turning mark and gates at each end of the course, splits and tactics were challenging and just like as seen on TV, or YouTube, these days.

88th Annual Candler Regatta

This event was hosted by the St Andrews Bay Yacht Club, Panama City, with 2 days of racing, Saturday May 31st and Sunday June 1st. Registration was very reasonable, only $50 before May 20th and $70 after May 20th I got there Friday around 12 noon and rigged up and went out for a sail. I had never sailed in St Andrews Bay before so I thought it would be good to learn the area Friday afternoon before racing on Saturday. We had a solid 15 knots of wind from the South West. The Regatta Chair Gaby Cumbie worked very hard to make this Regatta a success. I posted this regatta on WhatsApp to the Northern Gulf Coast Weta group on May 23rd. I should have posted earlier. With all the Wetas in Ft Walton Beach close by, I was surprised to be the only Weta sailor there. Hopef…

Weta Rappahannock Rivah Regatta

On Friday May 16th, I set out for my first trip to the Rappahannock Rivah Regatta. It was unlike any regatta I’d attended before—this one was held in someone’s backyard! After turning off Route 3 onto a narrow country lane, I was immediately stopped by a flagman due to a one-lane paving operation. While waiting, my GPS lost connection, and I ended up trying several roads in search of the home of Scott Duff III the host, regatta organizer, and race committee. Eventually, I spotted a driveway marked by two old Hobie 16 hulls flanking the entrance. Driving through a cornfield, I arrived at two beautiful homes with lush, manicured lawns nestled along the shores of the Rappahannock River. As the name suggests, the regatta exuded Southern hospitality and informality, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable regatta weekend. The Hosts were very cordial and made you feel at home…

First Annual Pensacola Multihull Regatta

This great event started Friday May 16th with Welcome party and dinner at the Pensacola Yacht Club (PYC). Racing Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th. Awards and dinner Sunday at conclusion of Racing. Regatta was organized by Tommy Clark, Sales Associate, Windcraft Multihulls and Pensacola Yacht Club. Windcraft is the dealer Corsair, Dragonfly, and Rapido Trimarans. Mark Smith was the Race Committee PRO, he and his Race Committee volunteers did a great job. The event was open to all multihulls including Weta Trimarans and Beach Cats, but I was the only Weta sailor and there were no beach cats. So I was racing against Corsairs, Dragonflys, and Farrier Trimarans, No large Catamarans either. The entry fee was $250 per boat early registration, and $275 late registration. I contacted Tommy via email and said that I didn't think a single handed Weta should pay the same entry fe…
