The Gennaker is really cut flat like a Genoa Sail but made out of Spinaker cloth. In light winds you can use the Gennaker on a point of sail as high as a close reach (apparent wind slightly forward of the beam). To do this you have to lay on the leelward trampoline, steer with one hand and manually hold the clew of the Gennaker in board and sheeted in as close as you can without making the jib luff, in other words you have to allow enough room for the air flow between the jib and Gennaker.
