Standard Jib - Missing a batten?

As you know the standard Weta Jib is slightly larger than the self tacking Weta jib.  The leech (trailing edge) of the standard Weta Jib brushes up against the mast every time you tack.  It causes some wear, especially at the leech end of the batten pockets.  On examination of the leach, I noticed a small hole in the leech end of each batten pocket from repeated contact with the mast during tacks.  If the holes get large enough you can loose a batten which can fall out through the hole.  The two upper most battens for the standard jib are only one quarter inch wide so they can come out through even a small hole.

I suggest all Weta Sailors who use the standard jib, should examine the leech end of their batten pockets for holes developing from contact with the mast, on a regular basis.  These can be repaired with sail repair tape, or sewing the hole shut.  Other wise you may have to buy some replacement standard jib battens from time to time, which Hardy or I would be happy to sell you.  Rick, Rick's Small Sailboats LLC
